Social connection is not about having a busy calendar. It is about feeling known, included and able to participate in ways that are meaningful to you.

Connection can take many forms

Some people enjoy groups and events; others prefer one-to-one conversations, online communities, volunteering or time with trusted family and friends. There is no single right amount or type of social activity.

Start with a comfortable step

Choose an interest and set a manageable goal. That might mean visiting a local venue before attending an event, joining an activity for 30 minutes or bringing a trusted person the first time.

Accessibility, transport, communication and sensory needs can all affect participation. Planning for these factors helps create a better experience.

Respect choice and energy

People should never be pressured to socialise. Support can include exploring options, preparing for an activity or developing confidence, while respecting the person’s decision to pause or change plans.

Continuity Care supports Queensland participants to explore community activities connected to their interests and personal goals. If loneliness or isolation is seriously affecting your mental health, speak with a GP or qualified health professional; urgent support is available through appropriate crisis services.
